The Gift of Invitations

The Gift of Invitations.

You walk to your mailbox and pull out the stack of envelopes, catalogs and circulars. Scanning through the stack you notice something other than a bill. Can it be? OH NO! It is!

It’s an invitation. Usually, a bridal or baby shower and the trendy, “Save the Date” wedding invites.
Another date to mark off on the calendar along with a gift to buy.

But wait…sometimes the invitation is for you alone. The only gift needed is yourself and your time.

Such an invitation was extended to me a few months ago. I was invited to speak at a local Methodist church for their monthly ladies’ group. Without hesitation I responded, YES!

I have facilitated many meetings in my life. Many at work and even more at church or through organizations I participated in. In this particular case, I was asked to share about how to find your creative voice.

Many moons ago, I slogged through a twelve-week class of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. Little did I realize how my life was about to change in ways I could not have predicted.

I gathered my notes, some door prizes, and headed on over to their church bright and early this morning. Ten beautiful souls attended and allowed me the honor of sharing my creative journey.

Hopefully, something I said will help them along their journey and even spark new ideas. I am forever grateful for their trust and the encouragement they gave me. I totally feel like I was the winner today.

To end our time, a beautiful lunch was served, and their pastor joined us for the good eats. There is nothing like a meal prepared by a room full of “snazzy” cooks.

I remind you to be watchful for invitations that happen along your path. Some are wrapped as a gift, just waiting for you to open.

Chapel of the Cross Methodist - not all attendees got in the photo. What a lovely group of people!

This is where you truly shine. There are a lot of people who’ve discovered their creative self. In addition to finding yours, you show others how to uncover their own hidden gifts. It’s a beautiful thing when someone can be the light for another good soul to help them begin to see their potential.
